Designed by the New York firm of E. C. Horn and Sons, the Wells Theatre is significant both as a representative of early 20th century popular culture and as an outstanding example of Beaux-Arts theatre architecture in Virginia. Don’t believe it? Join us for a performance of The Legend of Georgia McBride.
This play centers around Casey, who is down on his luck. Recently fired from his gig as an Elvis impersonator, he scrambles to pay his rent. To top it off, his wife just announced she is pregnant. When a new show replaces his act, Casey trades in his jumpsuit and finds that he has a whole lot to learn about show business—and himself. This music-filled comedy explores the art of finding your voice, with laughter and dancing along the way.
The Legend of Georgia McBride is an American play written by Matthew Lopez. Lopez is most known for his 2006 play The Whipping Man, which garnered an Obie and Lucille Lortel Awards, as well as the John Gassner New Play Award by the Outer Critics Circle for its New York premiere. Lopez's plays frequently examine American class structures, identity, our relationship to American society-at-large.
The Legend of Georgia McBride will run from Wednesday, March 4th through Sunday the 22nd. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.vastage.org. For additional information, please call (757) 627-1234.
